Hello!
I'm Josh and I've been making games and other software as a hobby for most of my life. I started out with Multimedia Fusion back in around 2002 when I was close to 11 years old and got hooked on the process of bringing ideas to life. Back then, a lot of my time was spent churning out local multiplayer (same keyboard) games for my friends and I to play together. After several years, I eventually out-grew Multimedia Fusion, after struggling with pushing it beyond it's intended scope too many times. So, I learned how to program the "real" way, and have been building software of all kinds ever since. I have built a few small game engines of my own, but I have accumulated a lot of time in Unity, so that's what I tend to use for my projects nowadays.
Making games was my introduction to the world of unlimited creative power which is made possible by computers - at least, for those that learn how to wield it - and has profoundly influenced me throughout my life.
I continue to have a strong passion for game dev because it uniquely provides a cohesive outlet in which I can apply a broad set of skills. Each aspect of making a game requires a different mindset, presents its own challenges and avenues for opportunity. Often, design decisions made in one area will influence or inspire other areas of development. This creative "spillover" can build into a continuous blend of constructive insights, revealing a path that becomes clearer and more cohesive with each iteration. Implementation of the seed idea, which might have begun as electing constraints out of thin air, narrows into the excited execution of a self-organizing roadmap. Eventually, the project arrives in a state that could not have been foreseen at the outset.
Every aspect of the process energizes and excites me. The key for me is that, even though they are so different, each is still technical and highly creative in nature. Unlike many other types of projects, this gives me a way to take a break from one area without abandoning the project. Rotating between roles like this keeps me engaged.
I will have to finish this later; It's super late. whoops! Night!
p.s. I only have some game jam games on here, but go check 'em out!
